Lateral Ankle Ligament Injuries Lateral ankle ligament injuries are the most common ankle injuries and are commonly referred to by the public as ankle ligament tears. Scientific studies indicate that the vast majority of cases respond successfully to conservative treatment, which necessarily includes physical therapy and rehabilitation programs aimed at restoring neuromuscular coordination and preventing recurrent injuries. However, in some cases, conservative management is not sufficient. Patients may experience recurrent ankle sprains during sports activities or while walking on uneven surfaces. In such situations, surgical intervention becomes necessary to prevent deterioration of the ankle joint surface. In these cases, surgical repair of the lateral ankle ligament is performed, followed by accelerated rehabilitation, allowing patients to return to normal daily activities and sports as quickly as possible.
